Dr. Robert “Bob” LeFavi’s passion for lifelong learning began with examples set by the faculty of UF’s College of Health & Human Performance. LeFavi went on to receive a Ph.D. (Auburn University), MBA, MDiv and DMin. Currently, LeFavi is dean of the Beaufort Campus at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort. Previously, he was professor and head, Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology at Georgia Southern University (Armstrong Campus), where he led 60 faculty and 2,000 students. With a belief in servant leadership, LeFavi created The Oasis Center — a nonprofit providing free counseling to persons in crisis.

LeFavi’s research and popular press articles have led to interviews on "CBS Evening News with Dan Rather," CNN with Paula Zahn, ESPN, and "Inside Edition," and quotes as an expert in the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, Sports Illustrated and Parade. LeFavi’s interests in all dimensions of health are reflected in the variety of his research topics; LeFavi’s technical analysis of sport movements has been highlighted by National Geographic and the Washington Post, and his research on life review in the terminally ill has received critical acclaim. LeFavi has been married to the former Susan Sutherland (BBA ’83) for 37 years. They have three children.
