Neo Gebru is a fourth-year doctoral student in HEB, with a concentration in health behavior. Mr. Gebru’s long-term goal is to establish an independent research career focused on identifying and understanding factors that underlie health-related decisions, specifically psychosocial factors related to substance use and risky behaviors among adolescents and young adults.
As a first-generation and immigrant graduate student, Mr. Gebru is passionate about providing mentorship and opportunities for others. Recently, in his capacity as research impact co-chair of the Black Graduate Student Organization, Mr. Gebru co-chaired UF’s third Diversity Graduate Research Symposium. Co-sponsored by HHP, the symposium was a success with over 50 poster and four oral presenters. Mr. Gebru also serves as a graduate mentor with the McNair Scholars program for undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds to facilitate their transition to graduate education.
