Andrew Meyr, D.P.M., FACFAS, has left an indelible mark on the field of podiatric medicine. After graduating from the University of Florida’s College of Health & Human Performance with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, he embarked on a fulfilling career that seamlessly blends medicine, surgery and education.
Currently, Dr. Meyr holds the position of Professor in the Department of Surgery at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. His commitment extends beyond the lecture hall where he serves as the Residency Program Director for podiatric foot and ankle surgery at Temple University Hospital. Over the past eight years, he has guided and graduated 41 residents, shaping the next generation of podiatric surgeons.
Dr. Meyr’s clinical practice is equally impressive. As a foot doctor, he spends most of his week treating patients with foot and ankle pathologies in an urban Philadelphia outpatient clinic. His performs approximately 200 elective foot and ankle surgeries annually. Additionally, he takes call at a Level-1 trauma center, addressing infections, fractures and gunshot wounds.
His dedication to academic medicine extends to national organizations. Dr. Meyr is on the Board of Directors of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), where he is on the Presidential track and will assume the role of President in February 2026. He also serves as the vice-chair of the Council of Teaching Hospitals, an organization representing all podiatric residency programs in the U.S. His involvement with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education and the American Podiatric Medical Association underscores his commitment to advancing the field.
Beyond his clinical and administrative roles, Dr. Meyr is an avid researcher with over 100 PubMed citations. As a hobby, he curates the Shoe Museum at Temple University, which received a “Best in Philadelphia” award in 2023.
What Dr. Meyr appreciates most about podiatric medicine is the opportunity to truly connect with patients. His journey from high school interest to a distinguished career exemplifies the impact of passion and purpose in healthcare.
When reflecting on his time at HHP, Dr. Meyr believes that his Exercise Physiology degree from the college provided an excellent foundation in anatomy, physiology, and human movement, setting the stage for medical school and beyond.
Dr. Meyr plans to continue his work in academic medicine, educating medical students and residents. He also intends to volunteer for his profession on a national level.
