The UF College of Health & Human Performance is honored to share the 2024-2025 Doctoral Dissertation Mentor of the Year, Teacher of the Year and Advisor of the Year awards. These individuals will progress to consideration for the university-wide level, which will be announced later in the spring. Additionally, these individuals will be recognized at the college’s Spring Awards ceremony on Friday, April 11, at Sweetwater Branch Inn.
Holly T. Moses, Ph.D., MCHES® | HHP Teacher of the Year
Holly T. Moses, instructional assistant professor, internship program coordinator and online master’s degree program coordinator in health education and behavior, is a passionate educator who applies a student-centered approach in all that she does to meet each student’s unique needs. She also helps students thrive inside and outside the classroom, promoting career development goals, work-life integration and workforce development opportunities. Additionally, Moses is an expert in her subject matter, having earned the designation Master Certified Health Education Specialist, or MCHES®. Her research interests include child and adolescent health, curriculum design and instruction, health advocacy, and professional preparation and career development of health professionals.
Beth Barton, Ph.D. | HHP Doctoral Dissertation Mentor of the Year
Elisabeth “Beth” Barton, professor in applied physiology and kinesiology and associate dean for faculty and staff affairs, is a molecular physiologist who studies skeletal muscle repair and the muscle regeneration process. Her work focuses on ways to enhance the resolution of muscle damage associated with acute injuries, genetic muscle diseases, and after disuse in her Molecular Physiology of Muscle Laboratory, housed within the Center for Exercise Science. In addition to her excellence in research and teaching, Barton is also a remarkable mentor committed to seeing her students succeed. Her approachability and adaptability are mentorship qualities that have enabled her to excel with students of all backgrounds and abilities, distinguishing her as an exceptional mentor.
Paul Higgerson | HHP Advisor of the Year
Paul Higgerson is an academic advisor for sport management and is responsible for advising approximately 270 students. In all that he does, Higgerson brings an engaging and creative spirit to supporting his students, fostering their intellectual growth and professional development. He consistently demonstrates a deep understanding of students’ needs and provides a supportive environment for students to thrive in the field of sport management.
