Blake H. Dowling, BSR ’97

Blake H. Dowling, BSR ’97, CEO of Aegis Business Technologies, recently published the book “Professionally Distanced: All Access stories from a Florida business during the 2020 pandemic.” The book offers an account of how Dowling and his team dealt with the difficult decisions and challenging realities during the pandemic.

Rachel J.C. Fu, Ph.D., chair and professor in tourism, hospitality and event management and director of the Eric Friedheim Tourism Institute, received an external research grant to conduct the project “Cumulative 30-year Economic Impacts of Tennessee Aquarium on Communities.”

Nichole Scaglione, Ph.D., assistant professor in health education and behavior, and her team were awarded by the CDC National Center for Injury Prevention and Control a one-year, $50,000 supplement to use an evidence-based approach to ensure measures and research procedures for their larger study are inclusive and representative of experiences reported by young adults who identify with a sexual and/or gender minority. The parent study is a mixed-method evaluation of the “Bar Outreach Project,” a bystander intervention training for bar staff, aimed at creating safer social spaces and preventing sexual harassment and sexual violence.

Katelyn Villani, a Ph.D. student in applied physiology and kinesiology, received a fellowship from the Wellstone Foundation to support work in muscle biology.
