HHP and Social Justice: Letter From the Dean

June 18, 2020

Dear Friends,

The winds of change sweeping this nation cannot be ignored. The murder of George Floyd and ongoing atrocities against Black people in this country have been laid bare. People of conscience recognize the underlying injustice and are demanding change.

Led by President Fuchs, the University of Florida is mobilizing to respond. Our University is developing a plan of action to oppose racism, promote social justice, and increase awareness of the African American experience. Changes for the better are coming to the University of Florida, beginning this summer.

Our College will be a passionate ally in this effort. Already, departments and individual faculty members are working to revamp the curriculum, develop new courses, organize events, and generate awareness. These efforts are just the beginning. Broad-based conversations will identify new opportunities for greater action in the coming months.

I am proud of this College and the people in it. I am confident of our community’s commitment to fairness and racial equality. And I am privileged to work with you as we enact changes to oppose racism and promote social justice in our College, our University, and our Nation.

Respectfully,

Mike
