Retired physical education instructor
Helene Rhine, a proud alumna of the University of Florida’s College of Health & Human Performance, graduated in 1974 with a master’s degree in education. Her journey led her to become a dedicated physical education teacher for the School Board of Alachua County. Now retired, Helene reflects on her fulfilling career.
What she cherished most about her job was the opportunity to work with children. Whether teaching fundamental movement skills, organizing games or promoting fitness, Helene left a lasting impact on her students. Her passion for physical education extended beyond the classroom, fostering a love for active lifestyles and teamwork.
When asked about her career advice for freshmen, Helene’s response is simple: “Follow your dreams.” Her own dream, inspired by a vivid basketball-playing vision, guided her toward becoming a PE teacher. Through dedication and enthusiasm, she inspired generations of young learners to embrace health, wellness and the joy of movement.
Helene’s commitment to nurturing young minds exemplifies the transformative power of education.
