Scott Nestler, Ph.D., to Lead Integration of Sport Analytics at UF

Nestler’s arrival marks a significant step in UF’s mission to integrate advanced analytics into its athletics, ensuring that the university remains at the forefront of sport management and operations.

Scott Nestler, Ph.D., CAP, PStat, a national analytics and data science expert, has been appointed professor of practice in the Department of Sport Management within the College of Health & Human Performance. Nestler previously taught at the University of Notre Dame and worked for football analytics startup SumerSports. He will also hold a joint appointment in the Warrington College of Business’ Information Systems and Operations Management Department.

Nestler's hiring is a significant component of the broader university sports collaborative, which aims to revolutionize the intersection of artificial intelligence and athletics. This initiative leverages AI to enhance athletic performance, improve injury prevention and optimize sport management strategies. Nestler’s expertise in analytics and data science will be pivotal in advancing this initiative, ensuring UF remains at the cutting edge of innovation in academia and athletics.

In this role, Nestler will spearhead the integration of sport analytics across UF’s academic landscape and its athletic programs. His unique position will bridge the gap between academic expertise and the practical, data-driven needs of the University Athletics Association.
