In June 2024, three students from the UF College of Health & Human Performance attended Venue Management School hosted by the International Association of Venue Managers, or IAVM, an international organization with 7,800+ members, including managers and senior executives from a multitude of venues. Eight students from across the nation were selected to participate in a weeklong event that allowed them to immerse themselves in professional networking and workshops related to event management, life safety, marketing and advertising, crowd management and guest experience.
Below are personal reflections on the students’ experiences:
Anna Corbin (BSTHEM ’24)
Special Events & Volunteer Assistant, St. Jude Children’s Hospital
“As a recent participant of IAVM’s Internship Program, I can say that without a doubt it has been one of the most professionally prepared programs I have had the honor to be a part of. From the instructors, to the students, to my fellow interns I was able to learn and absorb so much about the field and what it takes to be an outstanding professional in venues. I will take all that I have learned from IAVM and apply it to my future endeavors and hope to work with this incredible association in the future.”
Ayansley Santos (BSTHEM ’24)
Account Executive, Event Hub
“I feel very honored to have been one of eight interns selected nationwide for this program. The week spent with IAVM was a transformative experience that showcased the depth of knowledge and dedication required in venue management. I am grateful for the connections I made through this opportunity and look forward to applying what I’ve learned to my future career. As always, Go Gators!"
Ryan Millman, (BSSPM/BSTHEM ’25)
Event Staff Senior Supervisor, Stephen O’Connell Center
“The Venue Management School internship helped me gain advice and knowledge from industry leaders that I can take with me in my career. I also was able to network and connect with many amazing individuals. I now feel more comfortable and prepared when networking because of this internship!”
