Garrett Beatty, Ph.D., Appointed HHP’S Inaugural Assistant Dean for Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Garrett Beatty, Ph.D., instructional associate professor in the Department of Applied Physiology & Kinesiology, has been appointed HHP’s inaugural assistant dean for innovation & entrepreneurship. In this role, Beatty’s portfolio will expand to include entrepreneurial endeavors at the college. He will promote corporate investment in students and faculty, commercialization of discoveries and industry visibility. Beatty will also expand the reach of college initiatives by strengthening connections with UF Innovate, the Warrington College of Business Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center, the Engineering Innovation Institute and other units on campus.

For the past three years, Beatty has served as the college’s director of academic technology & innovation. In this capacity, Beatty guided the college to HyFlex course delivery during the pandemic.  Beatty has also been an advocate for AI in education, leading curricular and co-curricular programs at the college, AI Days and our college-wide AI Think Tank. Additionally, he organized the college’s AI Learning Community, a faculty and staff initiative aimed to expand AI integration across HHP curriculum. Beatty also publishes the ATI Brief, a weekly newsletter for college faculty, staff and graduate students that highlights AI advancements, curated UF news and opportunities for instructional development.
