HHP Names new Director of Career Development and Global Engagement

Michael Fitzgerald has been named the inaugural Director of Career Development and Global Engagement for the College of Health and Human Performance. His term begins on May 5.  

This role reflects the college’s commitment to increasing career readiness for students and enhancing faculty and student engagement with the world. Fitzgerald will be charged with overseeing HHP career and international initiatives for undergraduate, graduate, and UF Online students.  

“Mike’s vision and excitement for international affairs, as well as a similar passion for and expertise in career development will be considerable assets for the college.” said Christopher Janelle, Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.  “I look forward to working with Mike as a strategic partner as we continue to advance and enrich experiential learning opportunities for our students.”

Fitzgerald has led student services operations for 2,000 students in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering for the last five years. In this capacity, he oversees experiential learning, academic advising, international programs, strategic initiatives, and assessment. He successfully navigated remote and hybrid workforce modalities, student crisis management, and global engagement activities during the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Fitzgerald holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from Florida State University and a Master of Education in Higher Education from Pennsylvania State University. He has served on the UF Career Connections Center Advisory Board and was selected as the UF International Educator of the Year in 2022.
