The American Association of Publishers recently awarded Andrei Kirilenko, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management at the University of Florida College of Health & Human Performance, together with a team of global experts, with the Professional and Scholarly Excellence (PROSE) Award in the Environmental Science category for the sixth edition of “Global Environmental Outlook – GEO-6: Healthy Planet, Healthy People.”
The publication is edited by the United Nations Environment Programme and published by Cambridge University Press. This is the sixth edition of the report and the first for Dr. Kirilenko, who became involved with the project as a climate change expert in 2015 after joining the faculty at UF.
Andrei Kirilenko, Ph.D.
Kirilenko said the theme of the 2019 report, a multi-year effort, was focused on “the interconnection between the environmental change and peoples’ health” and is advising the decision making process in the United Nations negotiations. He will attend the UN Environment meeting hosted this fall where discussions will be made about future mandates and possible plans for a seventh edition.
The Association of American Publishers (AAP) annual PROSEAward recognizes publishers who produce journals, books and digital products of extraordinary merit that make a significant contribution to a field of study each year since 1976. Finalists are selected by a panel of judges from across the publishing industry.
Kirilenko said that student interns are involved in the meetings and aid in the coordination and group work to produce the report. Details about UN careers and internship opportunities, specifically the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), can be found at careers.un.org.
Congratulations, Dr. Kirilenko!
