Biography

The overarching focus of Dr. Dodd's research is on the epidemiology of health disparities, with a special focus on oral health disparities. Interventions and programs designed to interrupt the growth in health disparities require attention to a wide array of contributing factors; not only at the individual level, but within communities and nationally through policy changes. As such, Dr. Dodd's research involves both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, interaction with culturally diverse populations, and behavior change interventions using tailored health message design, social marketing principles, and close attention to interpersonal communication and cultural competency.

Graduate students can benefit from Dr. Dodd's continued collaboration with colleagues in the UF Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, and Education, involvement in the Alachua County Health and Wellness Coalition, and through her role as faculty advisor for the UF Pre Dental Society.   She is happy to involve students in her projects, refer students to other faculty, and provide support and guidance for students with individual research interests.
