Daniel Rogers Wins Division III 2020 Superior Accomplishment Award

Daniel Rogers is the Office Manager for the department of Tourism, Hospitality & Event Management (THEM) and was vital in the process of separating the former department of Tourism, Recreation and Sport Management during summer 2019 into two new departments.  His roles and responsibilities as the Administrative Specialist I for THEM is managing finances and human resources of the department, which encompasses undergraduate & graduate student scholarships, graduate assistantship funding, sponsored research, donor gifts, operational expenditures, faculty appointments and much more.  During the separation process, Daniel was the primary contact person and performed the exhausting tasks of creating new operational structures, reassigning space, re-appropriating assets, training administrative staff of both newly formed departments in their new roles, creating new HR and IT roles.  Admirable traits that Daniel demonstrated and continues this day is his positivity and commitment to seeing the transition with minimal disruption to faculty, staff and students.  “Daniel went the extra mile and beyond normal assigned duties to make it happen” says Dr. Stephen Dodd, Interim Department Chair of THEM.

Daniel is originally from Miami and has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from FIU.  He has been in Gainesville since 1995, and with the University of Florida since March of 2004.  He began his career at UF in the College of Education, in which he served for 13 years.  He has been at HHP since April 2017, and the entire THEM community is beyond grateful for his hard work and dedication.

He is happily married to Talia Rogers, Events Manager for the College of Journalism and Communications at UF, and they have three beautiful children Gabriel, Noah-Danielle, and Liam-Bailey.  When he is not working to make everyone’s lives better in the department, he enjoys photography, remote control vehicles, or cheer for his hometown teams: the Miami Dolphins, the Miami Hurricanes and the Miami Heat.

What he likes most about working for the department of Tourism, Hospitality & Event Management is “It is always changing, keeps it from being mundane.  I love assisting students and doing everything I can to make their education experience less stressful and more fulfilling.”  He also comments “I also find the faculty research interesting.  It is good to talk to them and learn their interest and see their excitement when speaking about their work.

As a Division III award recipient, Daniel is automatically entered into the pool for the university-wide awards announced in April 2020.  We are proud of Daniel for this well-deserved Superior Accomplishment Award and we hope to have him on our team for many more years!
