Convention Services Manager at Westin Tampa Bay
Elizabeth Kitzman, a proud graduate of the class of 1994, holds a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism from the University of Florida’s College of Health & Human Performance. As the Convention Services Manager at the Westin Tampa Bay, Elizabeth orchestrates seamless events, leaving lasting impressions on guests.
One of her most remarkable experiences was coordinating an overnight stay for former President Barack Obama. While balancing the logistical needs of his party, accommodating other guests and managing a previously contracted conference was a challenge, the satisfaction of contributing to a historic moment in time was well worth it.
When asked about her journey into event management, Elizabeth recalls helping her parents organize her grandparents' 50th wedding celebration. It was during this time that she realized event management could be a fulfilling career. The curriculum in Recreation, Parks and Tourism captured her interest, and she has been hooked ever since.
What Elizabeth loves most about her field is its dynamic nature. No two days are alike, yet the underlying skills remain constant. Guiding clients to create memorable experiences for their events and meetings brings her immense satisfaction.
Her most memorable class? Social recreation. Elizabeth's group was tasked with planning an event for adults, and they delivered with a casino party complete with a roulette wheel constructed from a turntable.
To aspiring students, Elizabeth offers valuable advice: "Get as much experience as you can while you're in school. Even if it's not your final destination, it will show you where you truly fit within the industry."
Behind the scenes, Elizabeth admires the unsung heroes—the quiet individuals who keep the wheels turning. Their dedication ensures that others can shine.
