The internship is the capstone course of the Bachelor of Science in Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management. The internship provides the student with the opportunity to pursue professional experience in his/her option area. It is a 12-credit hour experiential learning opportunity completed over the course of 13 weeks during the Fall, Spring or Summer semester. During the internship, the student is provided the opportunity to apply knowledge to practice. The internship is based on the philosophy that course work and theory, when supplemented with a variety of observations and hands-on work experiences, will provide the student with the opportunity to enhance his/her professional development as well as increase the student’s understanding and appreciation of the profession.

When can I complete my internship?

Internships may not be completed until all other degree requirements have been completed. Your internship will be your final UF semester, you may not take any other classes while interning.

Will a previous internship count?

No, only registered internships completed during your final semester supervised by our Internship Coordinator count for university credit.

Will my current job work for my internship?

Potentially, our Internship Coordinator will make that determination based on our criteria and requirements.

Is there an alternative to the internship?

An Academic Option may be available to students who qualify.
Please see your Advisor for more information.

Department Electives are LEI or HFT courses not required in your degree audit. Please see your advisor for more information and a list of current classes.

Most THEM campus classes have moved back to in-seat only.
Currently, LEI 2181 is our only residential course with an online format.

No, with the exception of LEI 2181 the online sections you see are for UF Online students only. Residential students may NOT enroll in sections of classes designated for UFO. Residential THEM major, minor or specialization students from other majors must enroll in residential sections of our classes, no exceptions.
