Isis Lamphier, M.P.H., M.H.A, C.I.C., AL-CIP (BSHEB ’19)
Manager of Infection Prevention & Control, Moffitt Cancer Center

As a first-generation college student and Florida native, Isis Lamphier, M.P.H., M.H.A., C.I.C., AL-CIP (BSHEB ‘19), was excited to be accepted into the University of Florida. She originally set her sights on pre-pharmacy, but after becoming a UF Preview staffer and learning about the university’s different schools and majors, she discovered the UF College of Health & Human Performance and shifted to health education.
Reflecting on her time at the college, she cherishes the friendships, professional skills and knowledge gained, especially from textbooks she still references.
“I talk about the University of Florida all the time in my current role,” Lamphier said.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in 2019, Lamphier stayed an additional year for graduate school and was deployed to help administer vaccines at the Florida Department of Health in Collier County, contributing to the COVID-19 response. She later returned home to Tampa, where she continued her public health career as the infection prevention and control officer and department chair at a long-term care facility. She oversaw the infection control program for over 117 residents and worked with nurse administrators on best practices to ensure patient safety during the pandemic.
She found her experience at the facility rewarding, but aspired to work in a hospital setting with a larger team. A longtime Tampa resident and relative of a cancer survivor, Lamphier already knew Moffitt Cancer Center and was eager to apply when a position opened in infection control.
Expanding Curiosity in Infection Control
Since 2021, Lamphier has worked in infection control at Moffitt in Tampa Bay and the surrounding areas. She began as an infection preventionist, then was promoted to manager of infection prevention and control, overseeing all of Moffitt’s buildings, leading weekly presentations to staff and sharing expertise on preventing infections in cancer patients.
“It’s a really fun job because you’re constantly learning, guidelines are always changing,” Lamphier said. “You get to learn about every single department and try to help them and work as an investigator or detective to see if there is anything you could do to eliminate the risks of getting an infection.”
Outside her daily role, Lamphier writes for trade publications and has been featured in Infection Control Today, The Joint Commission’s The Source, and the main reference text for infection preventionists known as the Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.
“Infection preventionists rely heavily on guidelines that are posted online from organizations, and we also like to read articles to ensure we’re staying up to date,” Lamphier said.
Expanding Reach & Impact
Since the opening of Moffitt at South Shore earlier this year, Lamphier has enjoyed helping develop Moffitt’s newest building and looks forward to opening Moffitt Speros in January 2026.
“I’m really glad that I’m working at Moffitt because we’ve continued to expand in the cancer world, creating more campuses to reach more patients, and that has been a great thing to be a part of,” Lamphier said.
