The UF College of Health & Human Performance has appointed Joe LeBas, the president, chief executive officer and founder of Concorde Group Holdings, LLC, to its newly established Council for Entrepreneurship & Translational Incubation.
In this role, LeBas will collaborate with college researchers to help bring promising concepts to market, strengthening the bridge between academic innovation and industry application. He will work closely with Colby Kash, D.C., M.S., the council’s inaugural member, to expand the council’s network and foster the development of biotechnology start-ups.
“The future of biotech won’t be built in isolation—it will come from tight collaboration between academia, capital and operators,” LeBas said. “I’m excited to help UF lead that shift and turn breakthrough ideas into companies that can compete on a worldwide stage.”
“Joe, a giant in the world of software technology, has made a dynamic jump into investing in areas of real estate and biotechnology. He is an excellent addition to the brain trust of advisors we will have at the College of Health and Human Performance for stimulated student and faculty innovation,” Kash said.
A UF graduate, LeBas brings extensive expertise in growing global, technology-driven organizations across multiple industries. Early in his career, he built Vivisimo, an information management software company later acquired by IBM and integrated into the foundation of IBM Watson – now watsonx, the company’s enterprise AI platform. He went on to serve as president of BWise, Inc., a global leader in governance, risk management and compliance software, later acquired by Nasdaq, and as president of True Office, a compliance training software firm known for its use of gamification and analytics to enhance learning outcomes, ultimately acquired by Intercontinental Exchange/NYSE.
LeBas currently leads Concorde Group Holdings, LLC., a technology-enabled commercial real estate developer with projects across the sunbelt of the United States, the United Arab Emirates and India. He also serves as chairman of the India-U.S. Small and Medium Enterprise Business Council, advancing cross-border partnerships, joint ventures, immigration pathways and the exchange of finance and technology between these two countries.
The Council for Entrepreneurship & Translational Incubation was established through the college’s Entrepreneurship & Translational Incubation Fund, generously made possible by Camelot BioCapital, a venture platform focused on biotech company creation co-founded by Kash. The fund provides mentorship, resources, and awards to innovators across UF and is focused on sparking collaboration between industry partners, emerging entrepreneurs and innovators solving the world’s problems in fields closely related to the college’s four academic disciplines in applied physiology and kinesiology; health education and behavior; sport management and tourism, hospitality and event management.
