Certificates & Minors
Take your learning further. Gain competency in industry-focused intel, develop future-ready critical thinking and nurture leadership skills you can apply to your current or next career.
A minor is a secondary field of study designed to complement your major, typically requiring at least 15 credit hours. Minors provide a broader understanding of a subject area and can help you develop additional skills that enhance your career prospects. A minor must be combined with a major/degree program and is noted on your official UF transcript.
A certificate is a shorter, more specialized program that focuses on a specific industry or skill set, typically 9-12 credit hours. Certificates often provide hands-on, career-focused knowledge and can be a great way to gain expertise in a targeted area without committing to a full minor or major. It can be combined with a major/degree program or pursued as a stand-alone option. A certificate is noted on your official UF transcript.
Essentially, a minor broadens your academic background, while a certificate homes in on specific skills.
