New Singapore hotel security standard focuses on contingency planning and crisis response
August 20, 2009

A new national standard on hotel security has been published by SPRING. The standard follows a review of the previous 2005 standard and ‘focuses on the need for hotels to conduct systematic and regular reviews of emergency operating procedures, security plans and equipment’.

Contingency and response planning, staff training and awareness of crisis response procedures are also a strong focus.

The standard also recommends that all contingency planning activities should involve senior hotel management.

The standard is auditable and while adoption of the new standard is voluntary, audited hotels are expected to gain a competitive edge.
