PRACTICUM PROGRAM

Practicum students will hold positions as Fitness Instructors. The main responsibilities include assisting, instructing and supervising Living Well members with their exercise programs, answering general questions about using exercise equipment, performing first workout orientations for members, and cleaning and maintaining facility equipment. Practicum students also are expected to complete monthly and seasonal special projects such as bulletin boards, newsletters and sponsorship letters as well as assignments listed on the syllabus. Practicum students will be actively involved in learning how to perform a complete fitness assessment during staff trainings throughout the semester. Practicum students are required to complete two credit hours, which is equivalent to 6 hours of work per week. Practicum opportunities are open only to sophomores, juniors and seniors. CPR certification is required.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Interns will hold positions as Fitness Supervisors. The main responsibilities include duties of a Fitness Instructor (please see practicum information above), as well as training, supervising and assisting practicum students during shifts. Other responsibilities include planning, implementing and assisting with the coordination of several programs and projects. Interns also are expected to complete monthly and seasonal special projects such as bulletin boards, newsletters and sponsorship letters as well as assignments listed on the syllabus. Interns will be trained to perform a full fitness assessment in the first training session and will be conducting fitness assessments on Living Well members throughout the semester. Interns also will be assigned to a special project throughout the term and will be responsible for giving one presentation on a health/fitness related topic of interest during a staff training session.

Interns are required to complete 40 hours per week and work during spring break week. If you are accepted, please follow your departmental guidelines and deadlines. CPR certification is required.
