GATORS ON THE GO BEGINS TODAY | 1/28

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators on the Go exercise program kicked off Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the Reitz Union Colonnade. Participants picked up their pedometers and goody bags and also enjoyed the festive music and healthy snacks provided.

“We had a wonderful turnout,” said Cher Harris, program director. “Everyone was so excited to start the program and couldn’t wait to use their pedometers.”

Those who already signed up but did not attend the kick off event can still pick up their pedometers at Living Well, located on the east side of the football stadium.

“I love my new pedometer!” UF senior Cat Jackson said. “I was surprised when I looked down at my pedometer because I had already walked 1,800 steps just going to class. I think this program is great because it’ll push you that extra bit to reach your goal.”

Due to popular demand, registration has been extended until Friday, Feb. 4, 2005. Those who are interested can sign up at Living Well.
The fee for the program is $10 and includes access to the program Web site, tracking system, health and wellness tips, healthy recipes, health calculators, a flexibility guide and guidelines for resistance training. A pedometer is provided for those who do not have one.
Gators on the Go, an eight-week program which ends March 30, 2005, encourages the UF community to get physically active. It is sponsored by the College of Health and Human Performance, and Living Well Faculty and Staff Fitness Center.
