PROFESSOR AWARDED GRANT
Dr. W. William Chen has received a $38,400 grant from the Florida Department of Education. The five-month grant will assess "The Needs, Barriers and Challenges in Tobacco Prevention Among School Districts" in light of the prevalent rate of high school tobacco use which was 22.4 percent in 2008.

MCNAIR SCHOLAR PRESENTS RESEARCH
HEB undergraduate student, Monica Solomon, was selected above all the other McNair students at UF to attend the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students in Phoenix, Arizona to present her research poster on the Sidney Lanier Program. Ms. Solomon won the "Outstanding Poster Presentation" and placed in the top 8 out of the 120 students in Social & Behavioral & Public Health. Congratulations also goes to Dr. Christine Stopka, Monica's faculty mentor.

PROFESSOR PUBLISHED
Dr. Delores James is the lead author of "Position of the American Dietetic Association: promoting and supporting breastfeeding" which was published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.

PROFESSOR RECEIVES AWARD
Dr. Jill Varnes has been selected as one of the Florida Blue Key Distinguished Faculty recipients. There will be a recetion at the Keene Faculty Center Ocotber 7th.
