Biography:

Steven Pokorny, Ph.D., joined the Department of Health Education and Behavior as an assistant professor in the fall semester of 2006.

Before beginning his position at UF, Pokorny was at DePaul University. At DePaul University, he directed two studies on preventing youth access to tobacco (funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the National Cancer Institute). Pokorny also taught classes, supervised independent student research, served on Thesis Committees and mentored staff and students.

Pokorny has 20 years of experience in the field of mental health and more than 20 years of experience in research. He is currently conducting research in two areas: environmental smoking policies and women’s heart health.
