Biography:

Adam E. Barry has a Bachelor and Master of Science in Health Education from Florida State University, as well as a PhD in Health Education from Texas A&M University.  Before joining the Department of Health Education & Behavior in 2011, Dr. Barry served as an Assistant professor at Purdue University in the Department of Health & Kinesiology where he contributed to both the health education and public health programs.

Barry’s research focuses broadly upon alcohol use among college students, but extends down two distinct avenues.  His first line of inquiry examines how individuals interpret, conceptualize, and practice responsible drinking. His other research investigates the alcohol-related issues of military personnel transitioning from service to college. He has served as Principal Investigator on an NIAAA funded grant that explores whether student veterans’ alcohol-related cognitions and patterns of use differ from those of their non-military peers, as well as whether they also experience a greater proportion of negative outcomes (mental health, social, and academic) as a result of their alcohol use. His scholarly work appears in outlets such as the American Journal of Health Promotion, Health Education and Behavior, and Journal of American College Health.

Dr. Barry is an active professional, serving as a manuscript reviewer for Drugs: Education, Prevention & Policy, Health Education & Behavior, and Journal of School Health.  Dr. Barry is also a consulting editor for the Journal of American College Health and the Secretary for the Coalition for the Health Needs of Military Veteran Students.
