Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiology is the study of how the body functions in response to acute and chronic exercise. Students are taught the physiological bases of exercise in disease prevention, the role of exercise in rehabilitation from injury and disease, and the utilization of exercise prescription for health and diseased populations. The APK Exercise Physiology specialization includes all four core sciences disciplines – biology, chemistry, physics and exercise science – as well as options to continue in the advanced level science series.

Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology with a specialization in Exercise Physiology, graduates are prepared for graduate school in exercise physiology, clinical exercise physiology or human performance, as well as graduate study or professional programs in health-related fields, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, medicine, physician’s assistant, nursing, etc. Graduates from the APK Exercise Physiology specialization are also prepared for employment as exercise or cardiopulmonary rehabilitation specialists or technicians in hospital, corporate, private or state agencies.
