Athletic Training Retention Requirements

In order to successfully progress and complete the education program junior and senior level athletic training students must meet the following retention requirements:

  • Successful completion of all competencies and proficiencies outlined as part of ATEP courses
  • Earn a "C" or better (2.0/3.0) in all Athletic Training core courses
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher to continue completing clinical experience hours
  • Receive satisfactory evaluations from supervising clinical instructors
  • Continue to meet the University of Florida Athletic Training Program Technical Standards for Admission and Retention
  • Continue to fulfill program requirements

If a student fails to meet the retention requirements, their case will be reviewed by the ATEP Steering Committee. Retention recommendations from the ATEP Steering Committee may include (but are not limited to) an academic remediation plan that will encourage academic success and return the student to compliance by a set deadline or removal from the ATEP.

ATEP Steering Committee

The ATEP Steering Committee is comprised of the following members: Entry-Level ATEP Director and Clinical Coordinator, Post-Professional ATEP Director, and three Clinical Instructors who serve in the Entry-Level ATEP. The committee is charged with the following tasks as it related to the Entry-Level ATEP:

  1. Review applications for admission to the ATEP and make recommendations for admission
  2. Conduct ATEP admission interviews
  3. Review ATS disciplinary violations (professionalism, academic, etc)
  4. Provide remediation and/or recommendations for unsatisfactory academic achievement.
  5. Provide remediation and/or removal recommendations for ATS’s violating program, clinical site, and/or professional conduct policies
  6. Review Entry-Level program evaluations and provide recommendations to the ATEP Director and Clinical Coordinator regarding ATEP revisions.
  7. Provide a summary to the Department and/or College Administration of the program evaluations/outcomes including any recommendation for ATEP improvements.
