Once accepted into the Athletic Training Education Program students will be required to complete a two-year competency-based education program. The education program consists of five semesters of academic work coupled with clinical experiences under the direct supervision of a clinical instructor. The two-year, five-semester program’s design is consistent with a "learning over time" model whereby students will continually increase their knowledge base and clinical skills. Students must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours and fulfill all ATEP program requirements to successfully earn the Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree. Current curriculum guidelines are available in the Undergraduate Catalog at http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/catalog.html

Once formally accepted into the ATEP, students complete four semesters of clinical education experiences under the supervision of an Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI). Each semester an ACI will provide the student with opportunities for both clinic (i.e., athletic training room, rehabilitation, etc) and field (i.e., practice, game, tournament, etc) experiences. Clinical experiences are required for clinical proficiency instruction and evaluation and involve constant visual and auditory interactions between the student and the ACI. Structured clinical experience opportunities are designed to expose the student to equipment intensive, upper and lower extremity injury intensive, and both male and female athletes. In addition, each student will have the opportunity to complete a Primary Care (i.e., General Medical) and Physical Therapy Rotation at the University of Florida Student Health Care Center during their program. All required clinical experience hours are functional components of specific ATEP courses (i.e., ATR 4812, 4822, 4832 and 4842, or ATR 4314c and ATR 4432).
Clinical education experiences provide the student with the opportunity for kinesthetic learning and skill synthesis and integration. Competencies and Proficiencies learned in lecture and lab are practiced and applied in a clinical environment. Clinical education experiences are completed at both on-campus and off-campus clinical sites; all students will be required to provide and pay for their own transportation during their matriculation at the University of Florida.
