B.S. in APPLIED PHYSIOLOGY & KINESIOLOGY - Admitted prior to Summer B 2020

The Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology is concerned with quality of life and the many aspects of human movement. Significant research contributions, education and service are related to the study of physiological and psychological responsiveness to vigorous and relevant physical activities. In addition, movement skills, capabilities and ways to improve and maintain health are studied as they relate to the typical person, as well as to disabled persons and high-level athletes.

Specializations:

Exercise Physiology: This program studies the acute and chronic physiological responses and adaptations resulting from physical activity. Students are taught the physiological bases of exercise in disease prevention, the role of exercise in rehabilitation from injury and disease, and the utilization of exercise prescription for healthy and diseased populations.

Fitness/Wellness: This program emphasizes the short and long-term effects of exercise on both health and disease. Students are taught the concepts of strength and conditioning for populations from exercise participant through elite athlete, as well as exercise prescription for healthy and diseased populations.

  • Completion of pre-requisite exercise physiology coursework prepares students for professional training in health-related fields such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, pharmacy, physician’s assistant, nursing, etc.

This degree is highly regarded for admission into medical school. Of those that apply, more than 33 percent of students are admitted to medical school. In addition, this degree is a pathway for those who wish to pursue careers in physical therapy and occupational therapy.
